The Story
Light Yagami, a brilliant but bored high school student, stumbles upon a mysterious notebook called the Death Note, a supernatural object dropped into the human world by a shinigami (death god) named Ryuk.
The rules are simple: write a person's name in the notebook while picturing their face, and that person dies.
Light sees this as a divine opportunity. Believing the world is corrupt, he begins killing criminals to create a utopia, positioning himself as a god of the new world under the alias "Kira."
His killings draw global attention and the interest of L, an enigmatic, eccentric, and legendary detective. L quickly deduces that Kira is based in Japan and begins a cat-and-mouse investigation.
What follows is an intense psychological war between Light and L, each trying to expose or destroy the other, while both are secretly brought together to work on the same task force.
