It is one of the longest-running anime franchises in history and the gold standard for locked-room mystery and deductive reasoning in the medium.

The Story

Shinichi Kudo is a teenage prodigy — a high school detective so gifted he regularly assists the police in solving murders. On a routine outing, he witnesses a suspicious transaction by two men in black and is caught snooping. Rather than kill him, they force-feed him an experimental poison and leave him for dead.

He doesn't die. He shrinks — regressed to the body of a six-year-old child by a drug that was never meant to do what it did.

Hiding his identity to protect those close to him, Shinichi adopts the alias Conan Edogawa and moves in with his childhood friend Ran and her father Kogoro Mouri, a bumbling private detective. Using gadgets supplied by his neighbor Professor Agasa, Conan secretly solves every murder case that lands on Kogoro's desk — feeding the answers to the oblivious detective while the world believes Shinichi Kudo simply vanished.

Underneath the weekly parade of ingeniously crafted locked-room puzzles and impossible crime scenarios runs a deeper, slower thriller: the hunt for the Black Organization, the shadowy criminal syndicate responsible for Conan's condition. Every clue, every alias, every carefully placed episode brings him fractionally closer to reclaiming his identity.
