The Story
Angelo Lagusa was seven years old when the Vanetti family came to his home and killed everyone in it. His father, his mother, his younger brother — a massacre over a political dispute he was too young to understand. Angelo survived by hiding. He has spent the years since surviving in different ways.
A letter arrives with the names of the men responsible. Angelo returns to Lawless — the fictional Prohibition-era town built on bootleg liquor and organized crime — under a false identity, and engineers an introduction to Nero Vanetti, the don's son. The friendship that develops between them is the series' most psychologically complex element: genuine enough that it complicates everything Angelo has planned, and built on a foundation of deception so complete that every warm moment carries the weight of what it is actually being used for.
